Bank of Scotland Unveils Limited-Edition Scott McTominay £20 Note to Celebrate Scotland’s World Cup Return

The Bank of Scotland has unveiled a special limited-edition polymer £20 note celebrating Scotland’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup — the men’s national team’s first appearance at the tournament since 1998.

The commemorative note features a unique overprint illustration inspired by Scott McTominay’s iconic overhead kick against Denmark at Hampden Park in November, the decisive moment that helped secure Scotland’s place at the tournament. Created in collaboration with Scottish illustrator Katie Smith and approved by McTominay himself, the design blends traditional Scottish banknote elements with modern football imagery.

Only 100 notes have been produced, with just 50 made available to the public through a mix of collector auctions, prize draws, and interactive pop-up vault experiences in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Each publicly available note will be hand-signed by McTominay prior to the close of sale, making them highly sought-after collector’s items.

Unlike formal commemorative banknotes printed entirely as special editions, these are standard Bank of Scotland £20 polymer notes featuring a post-production commemorative overprint, with serial numbers to be confirmed by the bank before the auction closes.

All proceeds from the sale and prize draw entries will support Crisis Scotland, helping fund its mission to end homelessness in Scotland by 2040.

The online auction and prize draw will run until 26 June, while fans will also have the chance to win one of the notes through special public events in Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the US, Canada, and Mexico from 11 June to 19 July, will mark a historic return for Scotland on football’s biggest stage.
