Oman New Commemorative Polymer Banknote
The Central Bank of Oman (CBO) has announced the issuance of a 1 Rial Polymer Commemorative Banknote, which will enter circulation on January 11, 2026.

This special edition banknote is crafted from polymer, a material known for its enhanced durability and advanced security features, distinguishing it from the current cotton-based banknotes in circulation.
Measuring 145 x 76 mm, the banknote features a distinctive design that celebrates Omani national heritage. The front showcases the Oman Botanic Garden, while the reverse side highlights the Sayyid Tariq bin Taimur Cultural Complex along with the Duqm Port and Refinery, collectively symbolizing Oman’s national identity.
The commemorative note incorporates several sophisticated security elements, including a large transparent window inspired by the arched windows of the Oman Botanic Garden. It also features a color-changing stamp depicting the frankincense tree on the front, and the Central Bank of Oman’s visual identity rendered in color-changing ink on the back.

The Central Bank of Oman confirmed that this commemorative polymer banknote will circulate alongside existing notes and will be valid for all transactions at its face value.
For collectors and the public, 1,000 sheets of the banknote, along with 10,000 individually packaged notes in special envelopes, will be available for sale starting January 11, 2026. These can be purchased at the Central Bank of Oman exchange counters located in Ruwi, Salalah, and Suhar, as well as at the Oman Post sales window at Opera Galleria.
The introduction of Oman’s RO1 polymer commemorative banknote signifies a strategic shift towards modern, secure, and durable currency, underscoring the government’s commitment to innovation and enhanced financial stability. For businesses, this presents opportunities in the polymer technology supply chain and security printing sectors, while smart investors should consider the growing demand for advanced materials and collectible currency markets. Entrepreneurs can explore value-added services in numismatics and cultural branding, capitalizing on the national identity themes embedded in the note’s design.
